Pursuing a PhD at Lab'Urba

01. Applying

Before applying, all candidates wishing to pursue a PhD while being hosted at Lab’Urba must contact the lab’s directors and the research supervisors whose fields align closely with their research interests, in order to develop their project. To assist you in this process, you will find on this page a list of Lab’Urba’s faculty and researchers.

02. Submitting an Application

Candidates must subsequently submit an application to the doctoral school Ville Transports et Territoires.

03. Funding Your Thesis/Phd

For several years, Lab’Urba has chosen not to accept applications that would lead to conducting a thesis without funding (except in the case of candidates advanced in their careers who derive their income from a primary professional activity alongside their thesis work). Funding can take various forms: PhD contracts from universities, PhD contracts financed through research grants, PhD contracts funded by organisations such as ADEME, the Île-de-France Region, or other public or semi-public bodies, as well as funding under Industrial Training Agreements through Research (CIFRE) with public partners (such as local authorities) or private partners (consulting firms, associations, operators, etc.). Your prospective thesis supervisor will be able to guide you toward the best option. Please note that all these funding opportunities are awarded through competitive selection processes.

04. Joining the Laboratory

During the PhD programme, PhD candidates hosted by the laboratory benefit from various types of support:

  • A dedicated workspace and logistical resources

  • Additional funding for conference participation, complementary to support provided by the Doctoral School

  • Funding for collective initiatives organised by the Lab’Urba PhD community

  • Workshops and training sessions focused on academic career development (guidance in preparing application files for academic recruitment, etc.) as well as on careers outside academia

  • Participation in all Lab'Urba activities: welcome day, offsite seminars, writing workshops, methodological workshops, and thematic seminars organised by research teams.
